'I hate bananas,' Grissom told her.
Catherine just looked at him, was he serious.
'Are you serious, Grissom?' she said raising her right
eyebrow.
'Yes,' he answered her.
She just stood there looking at him for a while.
'I really hate bananas,' he said as if that would
explain everything.
She kept looking at him for a few more seconds then
she stormed off. She just couldn't believe what a
nerve he had.
Grissom looked after Catherine as she stormed off, a
look of perplexity engraved on his features. Did I say
something wrong? he thought.
Catherine stormed off down the corridor and almost
collided with Nick.
'Hey watch out,' he yelled.
But Catherine didn't even stop she just kept moving.
Nick looked after her, a frown forming on his face.
What is up with Catherine, he thought. Then he kept
walking down the hallway and noticed someone else who
didn't look too normal.
'Hey Grissom, what's up?' he asked the man.
'Huh, what?' Grissom answered.
'I said what's up,' Nick clarified.
'Oh nothing,' Grissom answered him.
'Then why are you just standing here?' Nick asked.
'Oh, no particular reason,' Grissom said trying to
sound indifferent.
Apparently he had succeeded for the next question Nick
asked him wasn't about him at all, well at least not
directly.
'So do you now what's up with Catherine?' Nick asked
'What do you mean what's up with Catherine?' Grissom
asked back.
'She practically ran me down a few minutes ago.' Nick
started.
'Don't you have somewhere to be?' Grissom quickly
interrupted him.
'No, as a matter of fact I need to talk to you,' Nick
answered.
'Well in that case let's go to my office,' Grissom
said.
The two men made their way to Grissom's office without
uttering a word on the way there. But as soon as they
had gotten there Nick started asking questions again.
'Do you know what's up with Catherine?'
'No, I don't,' Grissom answered.
'She seemed really upset,' Nick continued.
'Did you ask her what was the matter when she almost
ran into you?' Grissom asked.
'No, I didn't,' Nick answered.
'Why not?' Grissom asked somewhat bewildered.
'I didn't have time, she didn't even stop she just
kept moving. So do you know what has made her so
upset,' Nick asked.
'No, as I said before I don't. Is there any reason to
why you keep asking me that question?' Grissom asked.
'Yes, as a matter of fact there is. You see I couldn't
help but notice that Catherine was coming from your
direction and when I found you, you seemed to have
your head in the clouds. Now that leads me to believe
that you might very well know what has made Catherine
so upset. Maybe you even are the cause of it,' Nick
said and then looked at Grissom expectantly.
Grissom just looked at Nick, he couldn't honestly
believe what he was hearing.
'So, what did you do?' Nick asked once again.
'I didn't do anything,' Grissom answered.
'Oh, so you didn't. Then why is she so upset?' Nick
asked.
'I told you that I don't know why she is upset,'
Grissom said then he said in a lower voice.
'All I did was to tell her that I hate bananas.'
'What did you say?' Nick asked.
'I told her that I hate bananas,' Grissom admitted
reluctantly.
'What, had she made you a banana-pie or something?'
Nick asked.
'No, she hadn't,' Grissom answered a matter of factly.
'Then why did you tell her you hate bananas?' Nick
asked somewhat perplexed.
'Because I really hate bananas,' Grissom repeated in
the same explanatory way he had done before to
Catherine.
'What?' Nick asked.
'I really hate bananas,' Grissom said again.
'I know, you already told me that. But you haven't
told me why you told her that,' Nick said.
'She wanted me to tell her something that nobody else
knows about me, something revealing,' Grissom said.
'So you told her you hate bananas!?,' Nick stated.
'Yes I did,' Grissom said.
'Had she revealed something personal to you when she
asked you to reveal something personal to her?' Nick
asked.
'Yea,' Grissom admitted.
'What?' Nick asked.
'Nothing special just something about how she doesn't
paint Greg in latex and put straws up his nose
whenever we have a disagreement,' Grissom said trying
to make it sound like it was really nothing special.
'She told you that she doesn't paint Greg in latex and
put straws up his nose everything time you've had a
fight?' Nick asked in a doubting tone.
'Yea,' Grissom admitted.
'Okay just to get things straight and in return you
told her that you hate bananas?' Nick asked once
again.
'Yes,' Grissom said.
'Has this anything to do with the interrogation with
that guy who killed that dominatrix?' Nick asked
'Why would you think that?' Grissom asked back.
'Well since that guy paid a woman to get to paint her
in liquid latex and put straws up her nose every time
he had trouble with his dominating wife one might
think there's were Catherine got the idea,' Nick
stated.
'After the interrogation Catherine told me she thought
we had a good relationship since she doesn't paint
Greg Sanders in liquid latex and put straws up his
nose every time we have we have a disagreement. She
then told me to tell her something revealing so I
did,' Grissom admitted.
'First of all you told her that you hate bananas that
is not particularly revealing. It would be like
telling someone you're allergic against peanuts or
that you hate fish and second didn't you understand
that she thought you would open up to her a bit after
that kind of admission on her behalf?' Nick said.
'No, I didn't. You don't think she's upset because of
me, do you?' Grissom asked a hint of fear in his
voice.
'No of course not. She reveals something very personal
to you and in return she finds out that you hate
bananas,' Nick said his voice laced with sarcasm.
'Oh,' was all Grissom could say in response.
'Who knows maybe she's changing her answer as were
talking,' Nick continued.
'You mean.' Grissom said.
'Yea why not, I'm sure Greg would tell her something
revealing,' Nick said looking at Grissom.
He wasn't sure what he was supposed to make of the
look on Grissom's face but this was suddenly getting
very interesting in a new sort of way.
'What's up with the look on your face?' Nick asked.
'What look?' Grissom asked.
'That look,' Nick said.
'Oh, nothing. I just remembered I left something in
the lab,' Grissom said slowly backing away from Nick.
'Okay,' Nick said and with that Grissom sprinted down
the hallway to the lab.
Nick just laughed.
