Chapter 1

She was eyeing the page in an attempt to understand
what it said. It was in English but for some reason
that didn't make it  any easier to interpret. It was
something about it that made it so hard to understand
something that had kept her interested for hours.

THUMP!

She heard a noise and momentarily her eyes left the
page and went to the door of his office. She watched
the door as she listened to see if the noise would
repeat itself but when she didn't hear anything she
allowed her gaze to wander back to the page.

She could feel how hunger and tiredness started to
creep up on her and as she took a long breath she
could feel the stiffness in her neck that the monotone
job had caused her.

She started to stretch the muscles in her neck and as
they cracked she could once again distinguish a noise
although this was much softer than the first one. Once
again she directed her gaze towards the door and
listened and once again she heard nothing.

She looked at her watch and read the time to being
01:57 a.m. In light of this information she understood
that there shouldn't be anyone there but her.

She decided to shake the noise off as an illusion
conjured up by her tired mind and returned her
concentration to the enigma in her hands.

THUMP!

The noise was back and this time it was louder that
the previous two times. She arose from her chair and
approached the door but upon opening she saw nothing
but the darkness that had swallowed the hallway.

She decided that if she heard the sound again she
would grab a flashlight and investigate and with that
she returned to the table and her apparent Sisyphus
job.

THUMP!

She had barely sat down when the sound was heard once
again. She opened a drawer and found the flashlight
and with it in her hand she opened the door. She
turned on the flashlight and started to walk along the
darkened hallway.

As she walked she heightened her senses and allowed
every muscle in her body to become tense. It was due
to this that she jumped into his arms as she heard a
noise further down the hallway.

At first she didn't even notice that he had his arms
around her instead her concentration was still on the
noise that once again made its presence known. As she
tried to make her way towards it she noticed that she
couldn't move and that was when she realized that
someone had their arms around her.

However she didn't yet know who it was and before she
had been able to ask for the identity of the man that
held her captive, the gender based on the strength and
size of the arms around her small body frame, he
kissed her.

At first she was too stunned to respond but then for
some unknown reason she kissed him back. As the kiss
deepened they made their way back to her office and
the couch that held residence along one of the walls
there.

She kept her eyes closed while they kissed and thus
she didn't notice the identity of him until he lay on
top of her on the couch pinning her down with his own
weight. But as they both went for a breath she opened
her eyes and realized who it was. Upon realizing she
froze and as he noticed this he allowed her to stand
up.

It felt as if hours were ticking by as she stood there
staring at him with her mouth agape. Finally she
thought she had regained her ability to speak and keen
on trying it she spoke without thinking.

'I kissed you.'

'I kissed you.'

'You kissed me.'

'We kissed and unless we'd stopped it we would've
slept together,' she kept mumbling.

Apparently the speaking-without-thinking-disease was
extremely contagious as he started saying.

'Would that have been such a bad thing?'

She wasn't completely sure on what she was supposed to
answer on that. Instead she just kept staring at him
and thus failed to notice the recurrence of the sound
down the hallway.
