Donna sat in the uncomfortable airline seat and closed her eyes as the plane landed. There was no going back now. She had called Sam and told him of her plans to return to Washington and he’d promised to make sure Josh was at the airport waiting for her when she arrived. He’d said he’d tell Josh that Joey Lucas was flying in and he needed to pick her up. She hoped it’d worked.

Sam had also told her that for the 3 weeks she’d been away Josh had been a mess. She had to admit, it was nice to know he needed her. She sat in her seat for a couple of minutes after the seat belts sign had gone off and tried to compose herself. What if Sam had been wrong and Josh was fine without her? What if he didn’t want or need her back? What if he was angry with her for leaving when he needed her the most? Shaking her head she got out of her seat and picked up her bag before she had another second to think about what she was doing.

Josh sat in the café in the arrivals lunge waiting for Joey Lucas. He really didn’t understand why they needed a pooling expert now but here he was anyway. Looking at his watch he realized that the plane had landed 10 minutes before so he left the café and stood near the exit to the arrivals only part of airport beyond which lay the gates and baggage claim.

Sighing again he sat down on a nearby chair and looked down at his wondering for to 3000th time since they’d lost the election how they’d all let things get this bad.

Donna walked out of baggage claim and stopped for a second and looked around for Josh. When she saw him, she gasped slightly at how tired he looked and forgetting her reservations immediately worked over to him. “Josh?”

Looking down at him she saw the confusion in his eyes and smiled slightly. “Surprise.”

Standing up he looked at her for a moment before saying “Donna what are you doing here?”

“Well Wisconsin wasn’t all it’s cracked up to be so I called Sam and he got me on the next plane back and Joey isn’t coming by the way. I needed a ride from the airport and Sam decided to get you to pick me up.” Realizing she was babbling she stopped talking and looked back at him. “Say something?”

Josh smiled what felt like the first smile since election night “I’m glad you’re back and I’m so sorry for being a jerk. I tried to get hold of you but I couldn’t find your parents phone number anywhere. Donna… I love you.”

“I know Josh. I love you to.” Smiling herself she stroked his cheek softly before pulling him down to her and kissing him softly. “Come on, let’s go.”

Reaching for her hand he wrapped it in his before picking up her suitcase and slowly they headed for the airport exit.

I was counting down the minutes,

I was wishing on the stars

I was praying for a sign,

Tryin’ to beat the odds.

I was dreaming of you,

Even before I saw your face,

And there you were,

Waiting for that day.

Then you reached through the hurricane,

Then you, baby you called my name.

You broke through the storm,

And you turned back the night,

Baby you are you fire,

Burning the midnight skies,

And your love keeps taken me higher.

Just when all hope was gone,

Where the hero belongs,

There you were.

There you were.

As you broke an old habit,

Just to role back the clouds,

Oh you’re on a mission,

You’re seeking me out,

Was I that one in a million,

Was I just one sacred kiss,

That you couldn’t chance,

You just couldn’t miss.

Then you baby,

You whispered through the silent tears.

When you, you swept away all my fears.

You broke through the storm,

And you turned back the night,

Baby you are you fire,

Burning the midnight skies,

And your love keeps taken me higher.

Just when all hope was gone,

Where the hero belongs,

There you were.

Standing in the middle of nowhere,

With your arms wide open and you,

You were the reason when there was no reason in my life,

You’re the reason in my life

You broke through the storm,

And you turned back the night,

Baby you are you fire,

Burning the midnight skies,

And your love keeps taken me higher.

Just when all hope was gone,

Where the hero belongs,

There you were.

You broke through the storm,

And you turned back the night,

Baby you are you fire,

Burning the midnight skies,

And your love keeps taken me higher.

Just when all hope was gone,

Where the hero belongs,

There you were.

There you were.

Oh, yeah.

Like the calm in the eye of the storm,

Tellin’ me not to cry anymore (There you were)
Close together where we were far apart,

Shining through like an angel is the dark. (Ohh like an angel)

You broke through the storm,

And you turned back the nights,

Baby you are you fire,

Burning the midnight skies,

And your love keeps taken me higher.

Just when all hope was gone,

And the hero belongs,

There you were.

There you were.
