# So let’s send up a prayer,

For this love that we share,

Coz it could change in the blink of an eye.

No you just never know,

How tomorrow will go,

So let’s make sure we kiss goodbye. #  (Vince Gill- Let’s make sure we kiss goodbye)

Sam stared up at the ceiling in the infirmary and had to admit she could really sympathize with Daniel for all the time he spent in there. She’d been there over a week and had counted the number of ceiling tiles a ridiculous number of times.

Sighing, she swung her legs off the bed, walked into Janet’s office and sitting down in the guest chair sighed again for effect before saying “There are 407 tiles on the ceiling in there.”

Quirking her lips Janet smiled at her friend and leaned back in her chair. “I’ve told you. I’m not letting you leave until the rest of SG-1 come home so that one of them can take you home and look after you!”

Frowning at Janet, Sam picked at a loose thread on her trousers. “Can I at least go back to my quarters? I’m so bored lying on that bed all day… no offence.”

“I suppose you could, but only if you promise me you’ll relax and that if I go to your lab in an hour I won’t find you there.”

Smiling slightly Sam held up her hands “I promise.”

“Ok, then, just take it easy!”

“Thanks Janet…. When did General Hammond say the Colonel, Daniel and Teal’c were due back?”

Pushing up her sleeve to look at her watch, Janet smiled slightly at the mention of Daniels name. “A couple of hours maximum. I’ll send the Colonel to get you after his check up.”

Grinning Sam walked out of the infirmary and headed for her quarters resisting the urge to stop in at the lab but she’d bet money on the fact that Janet had rung there and told them if Sam showed up then to escort her back to the infirmary again, which was somewhere she hoped not to see for a couple of days minimum.

Arriving at her quarters Sam closed the door and sat down on her bed, she had to admit, despite all the sleep she’d gotten over the past week she was still tired, she guessed it had something to do with nearly dying.

Shuddering again at the memory of having another being in her head Sam lay down and rolled onto her stomach pillowing her head on her arms. It hadn’t been a Goa’uld this time, but an electronic entity, which had only wanted to save its world after they’d sent the MALP through without realizing the damage that it could do. But she still couldn’t stop herself from feeling anger for the being that had nearly killed her. Thank god that Jack had wanted to keep her on the life support for a little longer.

Jack. Janet had told her that he’d never left her bedside while she’d been unconscious, not that she was surprised. She would have stayed by his side if it had been the other way around.

As her eyes fluttered shut she made a note to thank him for staying with her and probably saving her life. Again.

Jack fidgeted and glanced at his watch for what felt like the 30th time, as Daniel went through his findings from the latest planet they’d visited. It had been, in his opinion, dull. An average unpopulated planet with some ruins, which turned out to be nothing to do with the Goa’uld but Daniel being Daniel had been fascinated and was now enthusiastically telling General Hammond about it.

All he wanted to do was take a quick shower and then go collect Carter who had been going stir crazy and take her home. He had honestly thought that this time had been it and that he was gonna loose her forever. Thank God he’d been wrong.

Noticing that he no longer had everyone’s attention and guessing the reason why, Daniel quickly summed up his briefing and sat down.

“Well if there’s nothing else to deal with I’m putting SG-1 on stand down until Major Carter is well enough to come back to work. Make the most of your time. Dismissed.”

With that, Jack practically ran out of the door and headed for Sams quarters deciding to just shower when he got to her house knowing that she wouldn’t mind.

Arriving out side her door he knocked quickly and after hearing her reply entered to see her lying on her bed looking up at him through slightly hooded eyelids.

“Hey Carter, what ya doin’?” He asked playfully and was rewarded with a slight smile.

“Just waiting for my ride sir.” She sat up and stretched trying to wake herself up. “You ready to go?”

Jack trying not to smile at his 2IC eagerness to leave the base and return home, “Sure, I just need to get some stuff from my locker so I could meet you in the infirmary in… 5 minutes?”

Nodding she rose from the bed and walked over to the table on which her bag rested. “Okay, it’ll stop Janet worrying if I tell her and I’m leaving with you.”

Smiling again Jack left Sam in her room and walked towards the locker room. He was pleased that he’d have the opportunity to look out for Carter for a few days; it would help him convince himself that she was really there and wasn’t going to disappear if he touched her.

Shaking his head he arrived at the locker room and grabbed his bag and the few other things he needed if he was gonna stay at Carters. Daniel and Teal’c were planning on coming around in the morning but he doubted he’d be willing to stay away from her for long, the few hours they’d spent on Daniels planet had convinced him of that, he hadn’t been able to stop thinking about her.

Looking at his watch he realized that if he wanted to meet Carter on time, is was going to have to hurry. Quickly throwing the last of his things in the bag he slammed the locker door and went in search of Sam in the infirmary.

Jack strode into the infirmary and found Sam sat on a bed having her blood drawn by Janet as they talked. “Anything wrong?” He asked her nodding towards Sams propped up arm.

Shaking her head at the Colonel before answer “I just wanted to be sure there weren’t any problems before you guys left.” Handing Sam some cotton wool to press against the scratch on her arm, Janet smiled at her before saying “I’ll come round tomorrow afternoon and check on you. Cassie is dying to see you.”

Smiling back at Janet, Sam hopped off the bed and grabbed her bed before walking over to Jack. “Ready?” She said smiling up at him.

“Yep, Let’s get going. Bye Doc.” Waving slightly Janet headed back into her office as Sam and Jack headed towards the surface.

By the time Jack pulled into Sams drive way she was fast asleep in the passenger seat, smiling slightly, he nudged her to get her to wake up long enough to get inside the house and up to her bedroom. “Come on Sam wake up otherwise I’m gonna have to carry ya.”

Reluctantly Sam opened her eyes and smiled back at him, “I can walk just fine Colonel.” Un doing her seat belt she climbed out of the car and headed towards the door, fishing in her bag for her keys.

“Sure you can Carter, just trying to get you motivated.” Sending him a dirty look over her shoulder, Sam entered the house and headed straight for the couch closing her eyes as she sank into the chair.  She felt the couch shift slightly as Jack sat down next to her.

“Turn on the TV if you want sir, I’m sure you can find a hockey game somewhere.” Smiling again he picked up the remote from the coffee table in front of him and flicked through the channels eventually finding a program that kept him occupied.

After about an hour of being engrossed in the hockey game he’d stumbled across, Jack glanced over at Sam to see what she thought of the refs call, and wasn’t surprised to see her fast asleep. Silently he turned off TV and gently lifted her up, carrying her to her room at the end of the hall, easing her onto the bed Jack couldn’t help but watch her sleep for a minute before shaking himself out of his reverie and pulled the comforter over her and made his way back to the lounge, settling himself into the couch and flicking the hockey back on, yep. It was gonna be a long couple of weeks.

Sam woke to the sun coming through her window, without the benefit of the curtains pulled across she winced at the brightness and squeezed her eyes shut. Her eyes flew open again, realising that she hadn’t put herself to bed that night which meant the Colonel must have.

Sighing, she sat up and swung her legs over the side of the bed and headed towards the bathroom to shower.

When she emerged clean and dressed Sam made her way into the lounge, where she couldn’t help but smile at the sight of Jack snoring softly on the couch. She’s forgotten to find him some blankets the night before and she couldn’t help but feel guilty about being a bad host.

Silently she went into the kitchen and began to put some sort of breakfast together from her almost empty cupboards, there was however, coffee and she figured that would do until she could get to the Supermarket.

Quickly fixing a couple of cups she walked over the couch and sat down its edge next to the Colonel. “Sir… wake up.” She nudged him softly until he opened his eyes and groaned at the crick in his neck but couldn’t help but smile at the sight that greeted him. “Morning sir.”

Sam handed him one of the cups and stood so that he could sit up, she then sat back down and leaned against the cushions his legs had just been laying across.

Jack took a sip of the coffee and smiled as his head began to clear. “How ya doin’ Carter?”

“Not bad sir, how’s the neck?”

“Not un bearable. So I had a thought last night.”

“Really sir? Do tell” Sam sipped her coffee and waited for him to continue.

“How’d you like to come fishing with me this week? It’s not like you can work anyway.” He held his breath and waited for her answer, hoping she’d say yes. He knew it was dangerous, they were both well aware of how the other felt, but he had almost lost her and for once, didn’t care about the what ifs.

“Well sir, if Janet says it’s ok, I guess we could go for a little while. It’s not like I even have any food here.” She could fell him grinning at her and could help but return it.

“Great. We can leave this afternoon if you want, just gotta go home first and pack… oh and it’s a vacation, meaning you really should call me Jack.”

“Yes sir!” Sam stood and handed him her empty cup and directed him towards the sink while she went to pack.

TBC…. Sorry! I need to find some stuff out before continuing!!
