“What’s this?”

Catherine took another bite of her French toast and reached for the paper Gil had just thrown down onto the table.

She yelped when he slapped her hand away and rolled her eyes. “What?”

He leaned back and glanced around the diner, “Don’t get too excited. But there’s a job opening… and I know how you feel about puzzles.”

Gil couldn’t help but grin as Catherine’s eyes lit up and she smacked his hand away from the paper and opened it, a smile growing steadily across her face. “Are you serious?!”

“Well I can’t promise anything but you’d be good at this and the hours are slightly better…”

She smiled as she read through the information about the interview he’d set up. “So... what am I gonna owe you for this?” Catherine was knew she was flirting slightly then, but the giddiness of knowing that she could soon be in a somewhat safer profession was catching up with her.

“Oh I’m sure I’ll think of something.” He grinned back at her before downing the rest of his coffee and standing up, tossing a few bills on the table to cover the cost of their food. “You can pay next time.”

With that Gil turned and left the diner, leaving Catherine feeling happier than she had in a long time.
