Screwdrivers And Company
Theres something about the right company mixed with alcohol
She couldnt help but grin as she watched him order Saras plant. Although
Grissom spent a lot of time with his head in the microscope he wasnt nearly
as clueless as he pretended to be, but then, she wasnt clueless about the
situation between him and Sara either.
Glancing away, Catherine lifted the glass to her lips and sighed as the cool
liquid hit the back of her throat. She knew he didnt mean to hurt her and that
it had probably never occurred to him that she could possibly feel anything for
him other than a deep friendship.
Shaking her hair back, Catherine downed the rest of the drink and winced
slightly, it probably wasnt sensible to go along with this train of thought
following the number of drinks and the company she was in, but somehow that
didnt stop her.
Opening her eyes, she watched him as he continued to talk on the phone and she
couldnt help the sad smile that grew on her face. There was so much about her
life that shed like to change and this was undoubtedly part of it. Shed never
been one to miss an opportunity, but in this case she couldnt help but think
she had.
Catherine met Gils eyes as he clicked the phone off and was surprised by the
look of concern on his face.
Are you ok Catherine?
She looked away and masked her expression before looking back at him. Of
course Probably just one too many drinks. She gestured to her empty glass and
shrugged when he smiled.
He went back to cleaning up the remains of their breakfast then and Catherine
continued to think.
She couldnt help but be slightly jealous of the younger woman however
irrational it was. Catherine knew that Gil was starting to confide in Sara more
as they drew closer and she was left with the feeling of being out in the cold,
no matter how much she told herself that shed always have his friendship.
Hey Cath?
Her head snapped up then and she realised from the look of amusement on his face
that he must have been trying to get her attention for awhile. Humm?
It was Gils turned to smile then and he walked over to her, offered his hand
which she gladly took and he pulled her to her feet. Come on, Ill take you
home.
Nodding she put her glass on the counter and grabbed her bag and walked to the
front door, before stopping when she realised he wasnt following. She quirked
her eyebrow at him and smiled when he shook himself out of his reverie and
caught her up, opening the door for her.
Come on Cath, lets go home.
It took her a second to realise what he said before a grin spread across her
face as she followed him down the steps, may be it wasnt a missed opportunity
just yet.

Keeping things going
So whats a girl like you doing in a place like this?
She giggled and that was his first sign that she was well on her way to being
drunk. Gil glanced around the dimly lit bar and wondered what had brought them
back again.
It was where they had met and he wasnt all that surprised to see little had
changed in the time since.
Catherine? Why are we here?
He couldnt help but think she looked slightly adorable. Her eyes half closed,
hair slightly messy as she propped her self up at the table, discarded drink at
her elbow.
You dont remember?
He sat back and fiddled with his own glass, thinking.
Hed finished off the glass with her watching silently before it occurred to
him. 16 today.
Catherine grinned and nodded silently, Where else would I bring you to
celebrate?
He shook his head and wondered how he could have forgotten.
Dont worry, youll remember next year.
When did I become so easy to read?
She smirked and blinked at him, You always have been to me.
Catherine leaned across the table then and caught him off guard as she pressed a
soft kiss to his lips. Happy anniversary Gil.
