Nick flicked the cap off of his beer and watched it bounce onto the ground before rolling away.

He took a swig before picking the label off of the bottle, flicking bits of it in the direction the bottle cap had rolled, as he sat forward, leaning on his knees.

Hey.

He grunted in reply and sat back in his seat, bottle clasped between his hands as he continued to fiddle with the label.

She sat down in the chair beside him and crossed her legs. Soyou got the big promotion, congratulations.

Being required to move to a different city merits congratulations now?

She shrugged. Well, thats one way of looking at it.

He glanced across at her. Theres another way?

Bigger pay checks, more time off.

I never would have gone for it if Id known it would mean moving away...leaving you and Linds

She reached across the table and grabbed one of his hands, threading her fingers in his. Youll be able to come home Nick, it wont be forever. Lindsey and I will still be here when you get back. She smiled at him softly and blinked back the tears forming behind her eyelids. Besides, you can put that time off to good use and visit.

He smiled back at her half-heartedly and sighed, his free hand carried on picking at the beer bottle label.

There was nothing more they could do or say.
